Welcome to Wollongong’s Home of the Performing Arts

Producer – First Nations Program

Merrigong is excited to welcome Leroy Parsons, our new Producer – First Nations Program.

Leroy Parsons is a descendant of Yuin and Dunghutti peoples of NSW. Graduating high school on the South Coast of NSW, Leroy went on to study at Metro Screen in Paddington and Uncle Lester Bostock’s 6 month course at AFTRS in Sydney, 1993. In 1994 Leroy moved to Melbourne to study at Swinburne University for a Diploma in Small Companies and Community Theatre. At the end of 1995, Leroy decided to pursue acting and studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. Since 2000 Leroy has performed and toured with various theatre companies around Australia and toured overseas. Leroy has worked professionally in the performing arts for 22 years.

“There is a wealth of First Nation stories in the Illawarra and I’m very excited about helping, telling and bringing these stories to life onto the stage. First Nations Illawarra stories are very underrepresented on the stage and I’m looking forward to bringing them to Merrigong. I’m also very excited about First Nation Illawarra people seeing their own stories on stage.” – Leroy Parsons
