Do you know a young playwright that has an exciting 10-minute play you’d love to see onstage? We want to hear from them! We are inviting young playwrights (High School) to submit short plays to be considered for the 2026 Young Playwrights Project.
THE YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS PROJECT is a collaborative initiative between Merrigong Theatre Company and The Drama Studio.
Established in 2012 the Young Playwrights Project provides young actors and playwrights with the opportunity to develop their theatremaking skills under the guidance of industry professionals. Young actors from The Drama Studio perform the works, bringing the scripts to life on stage.
Criteria to Apply
SCRIPT SUBMISSION DEADLINE 1 April 2026
All scripts submitted must be:
- Written by current High School students
- 10 minutes in length
- Inoffensive and suitable for 13 -18 year olds to perform
Successful playwrights will be notified in the week commencing 6 April 2026
2026 Key Dates
- 10 April 2026 – Session 1 – Mentor Session (Via Zoom for out of area playwrights)
- 20 April 2026 – First read through
- 14 April 2026 – Session 2 – Mentor session (Via Zoom for out of area playwrights)
- 27 April 2026 – Optional rehearsal attendance
- 3 May 2026 – Final Script Due
- 12 June 2026 – Performance
