Bringing your students to the theatre

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to enjoy the experience of live theatre.

We keep costs as low as possible, with heavily discounted tickets for school groups on many shows.

To help you integrate excursions to the theatre with classroom learning, teacher support packs are available for most shows in our brochure when you make a booking.

If you would like to discuss bringing your students to the theatre, please email education@merrigong.com.au.

School Groups

A discounted school group price of $23 per student (for groups of eight or more) is available a number of school day matinee and selected evening performances. For each group of eight or more students, a supervising teacher can attend free. Any additional adults on the same booking can attend for a discounted price.

Merrigong Student Group Season Ticket

3 Shows for $60 or 5 Shows for $90

For even more great savings, schools can book a Student Group Season Ticket for their students to see 3 or 5 shows in the Merrigong Mainstage Season.

These packages are available for groups of eight or more students, and are most suited to high school students in Years 9 – 12. Students must attend the same performance of each show.

All shows in a Student Group Season Ticket package must be booked at the same time.

Passport to Performance

Substantial ticket subsidies for Merrigong Season shows are available through our Passport to Performance program, with tickets from as little as $6 per student (for groups of eight or more). Subsidies may be available for public schools with a high FOEI score, or for school groups with additional requirements.

Subsidies are limited and applied on a first-come first-served basis.

If you are unsure of your eligibility or would like to discuss bringing your students to the theatre, please contact us to discuss.

School Holiday shows - Vacation Care Groups

A discounted vacation care price of $16 per child (for groups of eight or more) is available for Merrigong shows happening in the School Holidays. For each group of eight or more students, a supervising teacher can attend free.

Post-Show Q&As

For most shows we offer at least one performance where the audience is invited to stay for a conversation with the cast, and sometimes the show’s creative team as well. This is a perfect opportunity to gain deeper insights into a show and how it was made. Dates for performances that include a Post-Show Q&A are noted one each Mainstage show.

Work Experience

We manage two busy and dynamic performing arts venues – Illawarra Performing Arts Centre and the Wollongong Town Hall. A limited number of week-long work experience and work placement spots are made available each year for students to participate in and observe the different departments in operation at Merrigong.

Behind the Scenes - backstage tours

We offer opportunities for students to go behind the scenes and gain unique insights into how stories are developed and realised in professional theatrical productions.

We would like to thank Peoplecare for their support in helping Merrigong engage with young people in the Illawarra by funding projects that create and facilitate inspiring theatre experiences.
