Schools

Bringing your students to the theatre

We believe that all young people should experience live theatre!

We invite schools to explore our venues, experience professional, high quality theatre and engage in a range of workshops.  We offer heavily discounted tickets for school groups for most shows. Teacher support packs are available to help teachers integrate excursions to the theatre with classroom learning, and are available when you make a booking.

Merrigong’s Young People’s Program is generously supported by Peoplecare.

School Groups

A discounted school group price of $23 per student (for groups of eight or more) is available for The Wider Earth, Blindness, As Luck Would Have It, RBG: Of Many, One, Symphonie de la Bicyclette, Sunshine Super Girl, A Practical Guide to Self Defence and Shakespeare in the Garden: A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  (Please note that this price is not available for Friday or Saturday performances.)

Guess How Much I Love You, suitable for students in preschool to Year 2, is available for the school group price of $16.

For each group of eight students, one supervising teacher can attend free.

For many shows we offer at least one performance where the audience is invited to stay for a conversation with the cast, and sometimes the show’s creative team as well. This is a perfect opportunity to gain deeper insights into a show and how it was made. Post-Show Q&As are noted on the event page.

Bookings can be made by downloading the pdf Booking Form on this page, or can be booked online. Please contact Demelza Haines at education@merrigong.com.au for the online booking code.

Passport to Performance

Additional subsidies are available through our Passport to Performance program, with tickets from as little as $6 per student (for groups of eight or more). Subsidies may be available for public schools with a high FOEI score, or for school groups with additional requirements.

Subsidies are limited and applied on a first-come first-served basis. If you are unsure of your eligibility or would like to discuss bringing your students to the theatre, please contact us to discuss.

Merrigong Student Group Season Ticket

3 Shows for $60 or 5 Shows for $90

For a more in-depth theatre experience, you may be interested in a Student Group Season Ticket, where a group of students attend 3 or 5 shows across the year.  Season Tickets are available for groups of eight or more students, and are most suited to high school students in Years 9 – 12 as some performances are outside of school hours. Students must attend the same performance of each show.

If you are interested in this package, please contact us to discuss.

School Holidays & Vacation Care Groups

A discounted vacation care price of $16 per child (for groups of eight or more) is available for the School Holidays shows Dr AudiYo’s Giant Adventure, The Listies: ROFL and The Box Show. For each group of eight or more students, a supervising teacher can attend free.

Bookings can be made using the Schools Booking Form (pdf), or online. Please contact Demelza Haines at education@merrigong.com.au for a booking code to book online.

Work Experience and Internships

Merrigong is keen to provide industry experience to local young people who have an interest in working in the performing arts.

We provide a limited number of supported work experience and intern opportunities across all of our teams; backstage, front of house and creative. For more information please contact us to discuss.

Behind the Scenes - backstage tours

We offer opportunities for students to go behind the scenes and gain unique insights into how stories are developed and realised in professional theatrical productions. Contact us to find out more.

We would like to thank Peoplecare for their generous funding of projects for young people.
