COVID-19 / Coronavirus update

Updated 02/07/20

Current NSW Public Health restrictions make the operation of our venues unviable for large public events. As such we are currently only open for a small number of activities, including meetings, drama classes and rehearsals. The Social @ IPAC café remains open, with social distancing measures, and extensive cleaning and disinfection practices in place.

In our ongoing efforts to keep all staff, artists and visitors safe, we have implemented COVID-19 Safety Plans for all of our spaces, and are keeping up to date with all public health restrictions and guidelines.

Our first major, ticketed performances are currently scheduled to take place in September. These performances will proceed in line with all current health advice and restrictions. It is possible that some events from September onwards may still be cancelled, rescheduled, or have changes made to seating arrangements. We will ensure that effected patrons are contacted prior to the event.

In these uncertain times, you can book without risk, as for any shows that cannot proceed as planned, you are, of course, entitled to a full refund or exchange.

We continue to work behind the scenes to support artists and community groups, and hope to welcome many wonderful events, and healthy and enthusiastic audiences, later in the year.

Updated 15/05/20

It is with both sadness, and hope for a healthy and vibrant future for all, that we are cancelling or postponing all public events at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Wollongong Town Hall, The Music Lounge and Spiegeltent Wollongong effective immediately, until midnight 14 August 2020.

This decision comes as part of NSW Government measures to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community, and after extensive consultation with management, staff, industry representatives and artists.

Our in-person box office & café are closed until further notice. Our administration, phone online services remains open, however we will continue to monitor the situation and act promptly on advice from Commonwealth and NSW Health officials. We continue to take important precautions to protect the health of our staff and performers/artists in the venue, including increased cleaning and disinfection, the provision of hand sanitiser and social distancing measures.

Do I get a refund?
All ticket holders are, of course, entitled to a refund or exchange for events that are cancelled or rescheduled, as per the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice. You will be contacted by email or phone within 21 days regarding your preferred refund option.

Our box office is currently managing an unprecedented number of enquiries and we greatly appreciate your patience at this time.

How can I help?
COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact upon the theatre and live performance industry, with enormous cultural and economic impacts that will last indefinitely. You may want to consider converting your ticket refund into a tax deductible donation (which can be done over the phone with box office staff). Or you can donate anytime by clicking here.

Independent artists and arts workers are particularly hard hit in terms of immediate loss of income. The I Lost My Gig – Australia website gives a sense of the scale and cost of the total impact to freelance artists and cultural workers.

The Social @ IPAC café remains open for now. We have spread out seating to allow for social distancing measures and on top of our already extensive cleaning practices we have increased disinfection of all surfaces. The Social is not-for-profit; every dollar spent helps support a range of programs and activities for artists and our community.

What next?
We’re down – but not out. We will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to support artists and community groups, and hope to welcome many wonderful events, and healthy and enthusiastic audiences, in the second half of the year.
