2020 Merrigong Digital Artist Residency

Got a creative project you want to take to the next level? Merrigong has teamed up with national creative producers Performing Lines to create a digital residency for performing arts practitioners, to be held online over 3 days – 16, 17 and 31 October 2020.

The residency is open to writers, choreographers, dancers, directors, actors, theatre makers and designers from, or connected to, the Illawarra, Southern Highlands or South Coast of NSW.  Applications are welcome from:

  • People at the start of their artistic practice
  • Senior artists with significant experience
  • Mid-career artist
  • Collaborative teams working together on a single concept. Teams should apply under the name of whomever is the lead artist on the project.

A range of highly skilled mentors from different arts practices are provided to inform project development. Previous mentors have included Stephen Armstrong, Van Badham, Kate Champion, Raimondo Cortese, Jo Duffy, Julie-Anne Long, Sarah Neal, and Elizabeth Walsh, among others.

To apply please complete the application questionnaire by following this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WZHS9SK

The application asks for 250 words about your raw idea and takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by a curatorial panel who will take into consideration the calibre of the artist(s), the quality of the idea and a range of other balancing issues including art forms, geography, and experience to ensure the right mix of people for a vibrant weekend.

Deadline for applications is 14 September 2020.
Successful applicants will be notified by 21 September 2020.

Successful applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of the residency and have access to a quiet space with reliable internet for the 3 full days of the digital residency.

Note: Successful applicants will be required to pay a deposit of $100 to secure their spot, of which $75 is fully refundable after completion of the residency and debrief survey. Applicants experience financial difficulty should contact Leland Kean to discuss alternative arrangements.

The Merrigong Digital Artist Residency is produced by Merrigong Theatre Company and Performing Lines and supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW. Original concept developed by Tasmania Performs and supported by Arts Tasmania.
