MERRIGONGX 2020 Artist Profile

Lisa Maris McDonell is a dance artist and educator from the Illawarra whose practice embraces performance, choreography, video, sound, and therapeutic dance. Lisa’s projects and residencies have spanned the nation and her performances have gone beyond, recently selected as an international finalist at the Festival for International Contemporary Dance in Mexico City.

For the past 24 years, Lisa has been creating and presenting works for professional performers, students and community groups. In 2015 Merrigong’s Studio Sessions program presented Home Truths, a work combining five solos for mature female performers, with video and original sound elements.

Illawarra Dance Portraits is Lisa’s new video project that celebrates the intersection of dance, the talent and diversity of practitioners in the Illawarra (regardless of profession), and their ties to the region.

The series of 25 filmed portraits capture a representation of different ages, dance styles and cultural backgrounds, and aims to inspire audiences to ‘dance through diversity’.
