The Zela Margossian Quintet

Fri 25 Jun

Zela Margossian is a rare gem of Australian jazz, classical and multi-cultural music.

The ARIA nominated Zela Margossian Quintet is an ethno-jazz band based in Sydney, performing original works and arrangements carrying influences from Armenian traditional music. The quintet’s live performances are charged with an energetic drive, traveling through emotions of both resilience and fragility.

The group’s debut album Transition shows a combination of musical influences, including Armenian folk, classical and jazz music, resulting in rich textures, tumbling polyrhythms and soothing melodies and was widely critically acclaimed.

Come and immerse yourself in the rich polyrhythms, melodies and flavours of Zela Margossian and her accomplished quintet.

A note about the venue:
Please note that while we are operating in accordance with the NSW Public Health order, and at reduced capacities, The Music Lounge is a smaller, more intimate venue, and the audience is seated close together.

Reviews

  • …The result is this exemplary album that is simultaneously heartfelt, authentic and wholly absorbing. This is music that can be returned to again and again, each time revealing a little more of itself with its abundance of inner detail. - JazzWise magazine
  • Embracing her background and a shift over to jazz following classical music studies, the bandleader has carved out an entrancing and dazzlingly unique kaleidoscopic niche. - DOWNBEAT magazine
