Steel City Strings – The Return

Sat 5 Dec

A welcome return to Wollongong Town Hall.

After months of lockdown and being locked out of concert halls, Wollongong’s award-winning chamber orchestra, Steel City Strings is thrilled to make a welcome and COVID safe return to Wollongong Town Hall.

A program that is short (as permitted by current health regulations) and sweet (as admired by our audiences) promises two old favourites, Antonio Vivaldi’s ’Concerto for Two Cellos’ and Peter Warlock’s popular ’Capriol Suite’. And a surprise: a rare gem from the chamber orchestra repertoire, the ’Concerto Grosso No.1 for strings and piano obbligato’, written in 1925 by Ernest Bloch. The work combines elements of the baroque style with tuneful melodies, clothed in attractive harmonies. A joyous celebration of string writing at its very best. Just the ticket for one very happy return in what promises to be a Bloch-buster program.

A note about seating: Online tickets to this event are sold in groups of two only and groups of more than two will be seated in pairs. This is to ensure physical distancing between pairs by an empty seat. Contact Box Office for bookings of one, three, etc. (limited availability).  Thank you for your understanding.
