Made From Scratch Online – September 2021

Wed 22 Sep

The night where all creative endeavours usually take place on the stage is moving to the screen for this online, lockdown edition.

Made From Scratch is a multi-artform performance night offering artists space and support to test new ideas. An engaged audience is a crucial part of the process so we hope you’ll join us to support this talented bunch virtually.

The beauty is you get to experience a little bit of everything. This event will showcase new works from local artists across performance, stand-up comedy, script readings, music, dance and anything in between.

MC drag queen Space Horse will host our online line-up:

  • Writer and maker David Molloy presents an excerpt from his radical new play Farewell To Arms: A Lovecraftian Sex Romp. This reading will give you a glimpse into David’s riotous, taboo-busting horror comedy with a sex-positive twist.
  • Composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Gregory Paul Mineeff will showcase his latest modern, ambient and electronic sounds from yet-to-be-released album Scrape Away The Snow.
  • Tegan Ware is a filmmaker, theatre director and writer. Her work titled Damsel in Revenge, will be performed by actor Alana Maclean Dowling and discusses the spicy topics of revenge porn and internet safety.
  • Choreographer and dancer Lisa Maris McDonell is presenting a short video that features some of the projected imagery to be used in the work associated with The $20 Commissions Project. A project that asks ‘what is a choreographer worth?’ Lisa’s work is a protest / provocation that is part dance cabaret, part documentary and wholly something you’ve probably never seen before.
  • Sophia Marosszeky, a young gun, stand up comedian who recently won NSW Class Clowns and went on to score runners up at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival will deliver her latest routine.
  • Writer and director Bella Whitcher takes us into the absurd world that surrounds young adults in 2021 with a scene from her script Twenty Something.
  • Actor, writer, singer songwriter and theatre-maker Lucy Heffernan brings us her alterego Fairy Sprinkles! What’s a fairy to do in lockdown… but start her own YouTube channel! This episode will find Fairy Sprinkles having to make something… from scratch.

Pay What You Feel

We want to make it easier to experience new works. So for this event there is no set ticket price. Instead, you simply reserve a spot, show up, then pay what you feel the performance is worth afterwards.

1. Reserve your spot for free.

Register and reserve your spot online.

If this is your first time, you will need to sign up. All you need is an email address and a credit or debit card (note – no money is charged to your card.)

2. See the show.

You know this bit…

3. Pay what you feel.

After the show, we’ll send you an email asking how much you want to contribute. You choose the amount based on your experience and your circumstances. There is no minimum or maximum amount.

Important: If you reserve a spot and don’t show up on the night, you will be charged a $20 no-show fee per spot. This ensures that the artists don’t miss out for their work.
