Made From Scratch – March

Sat 7 Mar

A showcase of new works from local artists.

A multi-artform performance night offering artists space and support to test new ideas in front of a live audience. Here, experimentation is key.

The beauty of Made From Scratch is you get to experience a little bit of everything. These events will showcase new works from local artists across performance, film, stand-up comedy, poetry, music, cabaret, circus and anything in between.

  • Part human, part caricature, meet Ezme, the guileless creation of performing artist and professional clown Ali Gordon.
  • The collective Applespiel will perform an excerpt from their project ‘under wraps’ Sorry Sorry Sorry. This contemporary work is a deep dive into the modern apology.
  • Brad and Rile are two friends, hell, best-friends. And they love to make stuff, when they are motivated and/or have time. They are working on making the Best Show Reel of all time.
  • Filmmaker Elias Rees shares a film exploring life for young people in public housing through the eyes of a young boy who pretends he is a taxi driver taking his friends where they need to go.
  • A performance from spoken word poet Isabella Luna who has been featured in various publications and festivals including Cordite Poetry Review, Baby Teeth Journal, the Wollongong Writers Festival; Sydney’s Story-Fest; and once in Texas via Skype.
  • Gregory Paul Mineeff presents After Today, a musical work exploring themes of hope, loss, the future, our everyday lives and the world we live in.
  • Singer-song writer Nikita Rolleston shares her soulful words and passion for music, writing, poetry and life.
  • Stand-up comedian Topia Ryan-Jones shares her observations of the often overlooked ridiculousness and hilarity of disability, sexuality, and mental health issues.
  • Our MC for the night will be stand-up, funny man Samwise Hemmings.

More to be announced soon.

Reserve your spot for FREE

For MERRIGONGX events this year, we’re trialling something new.

There is no set ticket price. Instead, we’re asking you to simply reserve a spot, show up, then pay what you feel the performance is worth afterwards.

After the show, we’ll send you an email asking how much you want to pay. You choose the amount based on your experience and your circumstances. There is no minimum amount (you can even choose $0).

If you don’t show up on the night and forget to let us know, please be aware that you will be charged a $20 no show fee.

Please note that all artists are paid a guaranteed fee. If audience contributions are greater, then the artist will receive more.

MERRIGONGX is our annual artists’ program. It focuses on supporting artists to take creative risks.

MERRIGONGX places artists and their practice at the centre of our community. From in-house creative developments to full-blown public presentations of new work, and everything in between, MERRIGONGX provides independent artists with financial, technical, marketing and artistic resources.
