Fireflies Multilingual Storytelling Festival

30 - 31 May

There are 6 shows over two nights to choose from or settle in and attend them all.

Friday night at 6pm we kick off with Eth-Noh-Tec in Australia for the first time. The powerhouse duo of Nancy Wang and Robert Kikuchi-Yngoji are master storytellers who have performed together for over 30 years. You will be fascinated by the synchronicity in which they dance/move on the stage. They are performing their show Onion, Ogre, Fool and Fan with stories from Kore, Japan and the Phillipines

The second show on Friday night is a showcase of performers – 1.5 hours of storytelling from all the international and local storytellers. Allow yourself to float away on the magic of old school oral storytelling as we present worlds, scenarios, magic, rhythms and wonder.

Saturday night at 6pm we kick off with ‘Big Stories from Little Countries’ featuring the joy, playfulness and the sheer mastery of skill of Alton Chung direct from Hawaii as he draws you into the mythical and unusual. The session is shared by the Baltic Cellective will entrance you and uplift with joy. Yes they will have cello, song and amazing musical treats.

Saturday night show two is for all as we are incredibly proud to prefer Sea Kinn. Local Jodi Edwards, shares stories of her Ancestors, weaving sea country and culture into every word. Sharing the stage with the director and presenter of this festival, local oral storyteller Lillian Rodrigues-Pang.

And as a final delight 9pm Adults only showcase. Burning Bright end to the Fireflies weekend for stories that include, murder, suspense, sex and tensions that are perfectly pitched to the adult who delights in story.

Settle in and be entranced over an entire night or weekend. You can also include a meal selection from Illawarra’s own Balinese Spice Magic to enrich your evening. All meals will be delivered for 7pm to the Music Lounge.
