Celebrating BlueScope Youth Orchestra

Sat 23 Jul

Classics past and present

This landmark concert which forms part of WollCon’s 50th Birthday celebrations presents BlueScope Youth Orchestra performing with guest alumni and celebrated pianist Caroline Almonte.

Caroline will perform Mozart’s famous Piano Concert No.21 with the BlueScope Youth Orchestra in a performance conducted by internationally celebrated conductor Merion Powell, who began her career as a music teacher at the Wollongong Conservatorium in 1977.

This concert will also premiere a new concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Orchestra called ‘Geera’, written especially for the performance by WollCon alumnus and saxophonist Nick Russoniello who will perform the new work with the youth orchestra.

The program also includes Mozart’s ‘Overture to the Magic Flute’, Mozart’s ‘Symphony No. 40 first movement’, as well as the first movement of Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’, played by bassoon ensemble. The wonderful Town Hall organ will feature in a performance of ‘Fiat Lux’ by Theodore Dubois performed by WollCon alumnus Titus Grenyer.
