By Pippa Ellams

A new Australian play that explores the limits of unconditional love between sisters.

01 Mar – 03 Mar

Christa and Jamie are sisters. Together they are embarking upon the treacherous transition between girlhood and womanhood. Christa wants Jamie to start living, Jamie refuses to leave the house.

The Carousel is a new Australian play that explores the limits of unconditional love between sisters. Written by emerging playwright Pippa Ellams and directed by Hannah Goodwin, The Carousel was shortlisted for the Rodney Seaborne Playwrights Award in 2015 and was developed at ArtsLab, Shopfront Arts Co-op’s residency program.

Recommended for ages 15+. Contains strong language and adult themes.

"...The one that really blows my mind though is The Carousel... There’s a confidence at work here... with dialogue crackling with truth and insight. The actors are so good you’d think they were playing themselves, navigating the tonal and emotional shifts at a hundred miles an hour, taking each one of us along for the ride. I’m floored" - TimeOut

"What's stayed with me is the sheer immediacy of the writing, acting and direction, the physical andemotional palpability of diminished young lives struggling to achieve some kind of wholeness... [a]modestly staged but imaginatively large work..." - RealTime 138
