‘Round Thelonious is a new play with music written by Australian writer and performer Anita Pollard.

This one-woman play is based on the true story of an English Rothschild billionairess, Nica, and her friendship with legendary African American jazz composer Thelonious Monk.

When baroness Nica heard a recording of Monk’s haunting ballad ‘Round Midnight she fell under a kind of spell. She left her unhappy marriage and moved to New York, where she became Monk’s friend and patron for the rest of his life.

‘Round Thelonious
provides a glimpse into the startling collision of two worlds – Nica’s claustrophobic, aristocratic English upbringing and the gritty, drug-fuelled jazz scene of 1950's New York where Monk’s genius found a home.
