Joseph & James Tawadros Live In Concert
A thrilling mix of Middle Eastern, jazz and traditional sounds with all-original pieces!
05 May – 05 May
London based, Egyptian born Oud virtuoso and triple ARIA Award winner, Joseph Tawadros, and his percussionist brother James show dazzling technique with beautiful traditional instruments, including the Oud - an Arabic lute, the Req - an Egyptian tambourine and the Bendir - a frame-drum.
Together, they give these traditional instruments a startling contemporary workout – that runs the full gamut of emotional and musical range in the Egyptian-Australian brothers’ hands.
A virtuoso of diversity and sensitivity, Joseph is known for his brilliant technique, deep musicianship and joyous style of performance.
Joseph and James, use the traditions of Egyptian music as a sturdy building block from which they springboard into new musical adventures, bringing contemporary vitality to the art form.
“I love the tradition, that’s what inspires me, but I’m not here to conform. I’m here to be myself, honour my ancestors and play my part.” Joseph Tawadros
Expect a thrilling mix of Middle Eastern, jazz and traditional sounds in all-original pieces, including music from the new album Live At Abbey Road - which has received rave reviews.
Having toured extensively Joseph has collaborated with celebrated artsists including Zakir Hussain, Sultan Khan, John Abercrombie, John Patitucci, The Grigoryan Brothers, Kate Miller-Heidke and Katie Noonan. He has also performed and recorded with Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Academy of Ancient Music in London, making him the first and only Australian composer whose music has been performed by this prestigious orchestra.
