A Belvoir production

Jasper Jones

Based on the novel by Craig Silvey. Adapted by Kate Mulvany

A smash-hit coming of age story for a generation, and a nation too.

22 Feb – 25 Feb

Belvoir makes a welcome return to our stage with their smash-hit production of Craig Silvey’s award-winning novel.

The backblocks of Western Australia. It’s summer, 1965. Charlie Bucktin is 13 and smart. Overseas there’s war in Indochina, Civil Rights marches, the stirrings of women’s liberation – but at home Charlie Bucktin dreams of writing the Great Australian Novel.

When blamed-for-everything Jasper Jones appears at his window one night, Charlie’s out of his depth. Jasper has stumbled on the body of a local girl in the scrub, and he knows he’s the first suspect – that goes with the colour of his skin. He needs every ounce of Charlie’s brains if the truth is to emerge.

As the boys negotiate the secrets of a small town, the winds of change blow – but how do teenage Australians solve the riddles of a grown-up world?

Delighting Sydney audiences in 2016, this production returns to Belvoir St Theatre due to popular demand before heading to Wollongong. Jasper Jones is enthralling storytelling – whimsical, funny, tragic and wise.

Recommended for ages 13+. Contains simulated violence and adult themes.

"Mulvany has created something crackling and genuine here, a glimpse of racial and gender inequity in our all-too recent past. Take a teen." - Aussie Theatre
