Part of the inaugural season of The Spiegeltent Wollongong
Legendary singer, songwriter and front-man of The Cat Empire brings his solo show to the Spiegeltent.
23 Apr – 23 Apr
Felix Riebl is one of Melbourne’s most innovative and accomplished songwriters and musicians. As singer and percussionist with his legendary live band The Cat Empire, he has spent the last decade and a half performing on some of the world’s most illustrious and exciting stages.
Felix has also released two solo albums: Into the Rain in 2011 and Paper Doors in 2016 both to critical acclaim. His band features some of the country’s most celebrated musicians.
Notable recent compositions include Ms Dhu, a protest song written in response to the death in custody of a young Aboriginal woman in 2014. This track, which has generated international attention and excited support from communities around Australia, is part of a collective project called Spinifex Gum featuring the teenage singers of Marliya (from The Gondwana Indigenous Childrens Choir), Ollie McGill (The Cat Empire), and some very special guest artists.
Felix has also composed music for short films, festival installations, international sporting events, and Sydney fireworks. A gifted writer and musician, Felix’s music speaks for an Australia that must be re-thought.
