Merrigong Talking Point - What is the value of art?
A conversation with actor Julie Nihill and artist Leigh Colacino
A talk to complement Bakersfield Mist. Learn more about theatre, the arts, and the world around us.
05 Aug – 05 Aug
Let’s chat about art. Is the true value of art in the eye of the beholder? Who has the right to put a dollar figure on an artwork?
Is the emotional connection to your first child’s painting on your fridge of deeper value to you than the space on the wall of the national gallery where Jackson Pollock’s Blue Poles hangs? An art lover may argue that art brings beauty to our society and provides insight and reflection into our everyday lives. Those who would dismiss its importance may argue that it is unnecessary, superficial, or a waste of public money.
Join renowned, award-winning Australian actor and Julie Nihill (TV’s Blue Heelers, Every Move She Makes, Bodyline, Winners and Losers) and visual artist Leigh Colacino as they chat about all things art and perception of value, inspired by Bakersfield Mist.
This Talking Point will be facilitated by Merrigong Artistic Development Manager Leland Kean.
