Merrigong Goes Green!
This year, we've been paying particular attention to ways our organisation can reduce the impact we have on the environment. One of the initiatives we began in February this year was to start a commercial recycling program throughout the venue. We've just received an update from the recycling facility we use letting us know that our first 3 months has been a great success! In this time, they have collected, processed and recovered 9.32 cubic metres in volume and 746 kg in total weight, that would otherwise have gone to landfill. It breaks down to:
- 291 kg Paper & cardboard products
- 237 kg Glass products
- 168 kg Plastic products
- 18 kg Aluminum products
- 32 kg Steel productsWatch this space for more updates on new initiatives and 'green' achievements!

It's been two years since Artistic Director / CEO Simon Hinton first sat down with Kahlil in Edinburgh to discuss the possibility of bringing his acclaimed hit comedy Basic Training to Australia for a national tour. This week these discussions and a lot of hard work finally come to fruition as Basic Training opens its 14-venue tour in Wollongong. In 2009, Merrigong commenced its fourth year as a producing company and its second with a show on tour. This is however our first tour on a national scale!
